After bringing back the Daleks and the Cybermen, Head writer and executive producer Russell T Davies decided to bring back the Master, played by John Simm. John Barrowman came back for the final 3 episodes straight from the end of the Torchwood, series 1 cliffhanger. With a higher average of Appreciation Index', series 3 was also a massive success. The Christmas special introduced future series companion Donna Noble, played by Catherine Tate. Series 3 dealt with the mysterious Harold Saxon, and the final message from the Face of Boe.
Series 3 starred David Tennant as the Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones, with John Barrowman back as Captain Jack.
